The Dyson lab is the defining academic spatial-AI group of the Gaussian-splatting and foundation-prior eras: MonoSLAM begat MonoGS (CVPR 2024 Highlight + Best Demo) and MASt3R-SLAM (CVPR 2025, 3.1K★), with KV-Tracker taking a second consecutive CVPR Best Demo in 2026. Zafeiriou's group shipped the Arc2Face face foundation model (ECCV 2024 Oral).
The AISP line makes Imperial arguably the academic reference group for memorization and contamination-eval validity: Copyright Traps (ICML 2024), the membership- inference SoK (SaTML 2025 Best Paper), and Mosaic Memory (Nature Communications 2026) — directly load-bearing for how the field audits training data.
2025-26 brought a hard institutional pivot toward frontier training, all still watch-stage: Nightingale AI (Faisal's sovereign health "foundation world model," ~1M GPU-hours on Isambard-AI, UK Sovereign AI Unit backing), the Thomson Reuters–Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab (Dec 2025; publicly targeting a competitive frontier LLM for summer 2026), and an AMD sovereign-AI collaboration (June 2026). None has shipped weights or a paper yet. The bench has thinned upward — Bronstein to Oxford, Deisenroth to UCL, Rueckert to TUM, Shanahan emeritus at DeepMind — but the spin-out engine is real (Polaron won the first £1M Manchester Prize; Monolith AI was acquired by CoreWeave in 2025).
