Genesis-Science-1 (GS1)

Announced 22 July 2026 as a joint US Department of Energy × Arcee effort under the DOE's Genesis Mission (the national AI-for-science initiative): Genesis-Science-1 (GS1) is "an American open-weight model for scientific research" paired with a governed research harness. GS1 is designed to operate inside governed scientific environments — use approved tools, write and repair code, recover when a run fails, and keep a clear, reproducible record of the reasoning behind a result. It is described as a trillion-parameter-class model built on Arcee's next-generation Trinity architecture.

The partnership makes a rare independent US open-weight lab the builder of a national open-science flagship. Weights, a technical report, and public demonstrations are promised openly "later this year"; a DOE contributor program (for researchers, national labs, universities, companies, and nonprofits — contributors retain ownership and set usage terms) opens the same week, and Arcee is lining up infrastructure partners for training and evaluation capacity. The DOE announced the first ~300 Genesis Mission RFA awards the same day. An announced program — this entry becomes a full model entry when the weights are released.
