Two image models released to the API and ChatGPT on September 8, 2026. Sunburst (snapshot gpt-image-2.5-sunburst-2026-09-08) is OpenAI's most capable model for generation and editing where edit precision matters, with quality tiers from low to max, inpainting, and token pricing that matches GPT-Image-2 ($5 per million text input, $8 image input, $30 image output); Flare, per launch coverage, delivers GPT-Image-2-level quality at about half the latency. Architecture and parameters are undisclosed. Earlier GPT-Image generations are not tracked here.
