Heads Xiaomi's MiMo large-model effort (LLM-Core Xiaomi). She announced the move on WeChat on November 12, 2025 ("Intelligence will step beyond language into the physical world"), after months of reported recruiting that began with a December 2024 offer from Lei Jun that local media put at "tens of millions of yuan" (never confirmed by either side). She is corresponding author on the MiMo-V2-Flash and MiMo-V2.6 technical reports and senior author on Rollout Routing Replay and ARL-Tangram, both co-authored with Peking University faculty. Under her the team shipped MiMo-V2-Flash (her public debut, December 17, 2025), MiMo-V2-Pro, Omni and TTS (March 2026, when she confirmed the anonymous "Hunter Alpha" was an internal V2-Pro build), MiMo-V2.5-Pro (April 2026), and the publicly livestreamed RL run behind MiMo-V2.6 (September 2026), whose research and engineering challenges she said exceed those of DeepSeek-R1. Google Scholar: ~31,400 citations, h-index 33 (September 2026), most of it from the DeepSeek reports.

Born in 1995 in a village outside Yibin, Sichuan, to an electrician father and a teacher mother. Yibin No. 1 High School (class of 2013); BS in computer science at Beijing Normal University after switching from electronics; a junior-year internship at Peking University's language computing lab, where she taught herself Python in three months and chose NLP. Master's in computational linguistics at PKU's Institute of Computational Linguistics (2019), during which she published 20+ papers, including eight at ACL 2019 (two as first author), which made her a minor celebrity in Chinese AI. Joined Alibaba DAMO Academy through the Alibaba Star program, where she was first author of the multilingual pretrained model VECO (ACL 2021) and ran the AliceMind open-source project. In 2022 she moved to High-Flyer Quant for deep-learning research and then to its spin-out DeepSeek, where she is on the author lists of DeepSeek LLM, DeepSeekMoE, DeepSeek-Coder, V2 (May 2024), V3, and R1; Chinese media describe her as a core V2 developer. She left DeepSeek in February 2025.

Chinese media dubbed her the "genius AI girl" during the DeepSeek frenzy of January 2025; she has repeatedly rejected the label ("I said years ago that I am not a genius girl"; "Please leave me a quiet place on the Internet"), telling a PKU alumni profile in January 2026 that curiosity, execution, and "a bit of stubborn resilience" got her there. Her stated thesis for MiMo is that intelligence must move from language into interaction with the physical world.
